The merchants of the Brick Yard Station mall in partnership with the Cloverdale BIA have put together a new event aimed at young people in the area. Believe it or not, there are over 8,600 children under the age of 15 that live in an 8 minute drive radius from the Cloverdale Town Centre. Clancy’s Meat owner and young dad Derek Tremblay had been planning for years to have an outdoor movie at the mall and it didn’t take much convincing to get some of the other larger tenants like CIBC, Envision Financial and Staples to get involved. The main event will feature a kids animated movie called “Inside Out” that will start at 7:30pm in the parking lot of the mall and they encourage you to bring your own chairs and blankets. Clancy’s will also be on site during the festival grilling hot dogs for charity. The organizers will also be collecting food donations at the event through Envision Financials “The Full Cupboard” which will pass the donations on to the Surrey Food Bank. The front part of the Cloverdale Children’s Festival runs from 3:30pm to 7:30pm on Saturday, Sept. 17th with a variety of children’s activities that include face painting, colouring contests, and exhibits like the Urban Safari Rescue Society that cares for exotic animals as well as educating the public about them. There will also be product sampling from Starbuck’s, Into Chocolates and the Chopped Leaf. The folks at Staples will also be fundraising with their annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign that puts together backpacks with school supplies for children in need that attend the George Greenaway Elementary. CIBC has sponsored an inflatable bounce castle and a new inflatable corn maze that will be located in the parking lot out front of the bank and by Rexall. At the event, there will be a variety of exhibitor booths like Regional Recycling promoting their Back to School campaign to be more environmentally friendly. This new family event is open to the public and for the most part has no costs attached to it. Mark your calendars and join them to have some fun and to help some people in Cloverdale that need it.
